Public Health Social Marketing Specialist

Northeast Oregon Network (NEON) is seeking a full time Public Health Social Marketing Specialist. Position is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, managing & evaluating social marketing strategies, intervention & plans in order to reduce barriers to enrollment in health coverage & improve health status of target populations.

Required qualifications/skills: Bachelors degree in health communications, public health or related content area, two years experience preferred. Excellent written/verbal skills, public speaking, & evaluation skills required. Proficiency with all Microsoft Office programs. Proficiency in use of office equipment. Position: CKF Northeast Oregon Social Marketer

Job Description:  The primary purpose of this position is to design and coordinate implementation of a new social marketing campaign for Northeast Oregon Network, and its program Covering Kids and Families Eastern Oregon.  This campaign will focus on targeting identified high health needs and Latino regional 18 and under populations, and include assessment and attention to barriers to health coverage enrollment. The Social Marketing Coordinator will need to maintain cohesion with the overall strategic direction of the organization by participating in joint planning sessions with other marketing staff, consistent communications with Director, and direct staff as needed in coordinating implementation of social marketing operations. **

Qualifications/Prior Experience:  A Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Health Communications/Marketing, or related field required.  Good verbal and written communication skills required, including public presentation.  Good interpersonal skills are also required.  Two years prior experience in the social/health marketing field preferred.  Analysis and research skills highly desired.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Research, design, implement and evaluate culturally and linguistically competent social marketing campaigns
  • Pilot test social marketing interventions for effectiveness
  • Conduct focus groups with target audiences
  • Write and present social marketing plans and evaluation/outcome reports
  • Outreach and partnership building with stakeholders
  • Accurate and complete documentation of projects and processes in order to build NEON infrastructure
  • Work with other staff to educate them regarding results of social marketing research and evaluations, and to be educated by them regarding population needs and characteristics
  • Ability to seek and obtain grant funding resources
  • Basic office equipment operations, including fax, copier, and printer
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Context

  • Requires travel in Union, Baker and Wallowa Counties using private vehicle, though mileage is reimbursed.
  • May require working non-standard hours when conducting focus groups or pilot testing with target audiences (evenings or weekends when needed)
  • Will involve meeting with target stakeholders in community based settings such as churches, libraries, schools or grange halls
  • Requires work with external customers or the public, and requires work with others in a group or team.
  • Requires work with others in a team.

Examples of Work Activities are:

  • Conducting focus groups with Latino Community members in order to ascertain barriers to participation in the CKF program.
  • Analyzing public health data to monitor high health risk populations status
  • Developing surveys and prepare statistical/evaluation reports
  • Researching on line to assess most prevalent attitudes promoting stigma of public health insurance programs, as identified in previous research studies
  • Developing social marketing interventions to reduce stigma and implementing in creative ways with target populations in community settings
  • Evaluating effectiveness of planned social marketing interventions, and adjusting social marketing interventions according to results
  • Developing materials for the media as needed
