From Our Director
A Special Message From Eric Griffith, NEON Executive Director
To Our Partners and Friends of NEON,
Earlier this year, I announced that I plan to step down as NEON’s Executive Director sometime in the early summer. In early April, a committee of the board of directors and I reviewed submitted applications for the position and worked through the process to select and offer the position to the best candidate. I’m very happy to announce that NEON’s own Liberty Avila has accepted the offer and will be NEON’s next Executive Director. In the Interim, Liberty will be acting as Deputy Director, working with the board and me on the transition process.
I am very excited about this announcement, and more excited to see what wonderful work NEON will do in the coming years under Liberty’s leadership. Please see a message from Liberty below.
- Eric Griffith
Two and a half years ago, I moved back to my hometown of La Grande after 8 years spent pursuing first a master’s degree in Sustainable Systems, then working in community development in Ohio. I was excited to see family more and spend time in the mountains, especially since I’d started a family of my own and wanted to make sure my son could spend time outdoors. While working at NEON I have loved getting to know our region from a new perspective while continuing my focus on social determinants of health as the manager of the Pathways Hub program. NEON has a fantastic team of people, and I was honored to be chosen to lead the organization starting in July.
Please feel free to reach out if you would like to chat about the future of NEON or our region!
